Classics for Credit is a program designed to encourage high school students to read more classical literature. Students are able to select a work of literature to read and take a short reading comprehension test on. They may then receive an extra credit grade in their English class based on their score. The tests are provided to teachers at no cost and are based on books in the public domain, many of which are available for free from gutenberg.org. Teachers may print out the tests, give them to students, and then score them based on the answer key provided with the test. However, we must request that tests be retained by the teachers only in order to prevent cheating. Additionally, the tests and answers found on this site are password protected to further prevent cheating. Click here to see the list of tests available. From there, you will be able to select a test to print. We hope you will enjoy reading all of these great books!
